Raise diabetes awareness on the CBS Early Show

Back in October, I made an announcement about the Global Diabetes Handprint. Then many of you learned about TuDiabetes when you saw the Diabetes Handprint and Word In Your Hand (the project that inspired it) on Time, People and other magazines.

The idea behind the project is simple: you write a word on your hand expressing your feelings about diabetes, and sharing the story behind it. In turn, OneTouch (the company supporting the project) will donate $5 to one of two diabetes charities (Diabetes Education and Camping Association or Taking Control of Your Diabetes) for every submission.

So what does this have to do with the Early Show?
On Tuesday, June 2nd, the CBS Early Show will air a segment mentioning the Diabetes Handprint. It will be an outdoor plaza/audience segment where the show's weatherman, Dave Price, will mention the Diabetes Handprint during one of their weather breaks before commercial breaks. He will also mention how to participate.

The folks at the Diabetes Handprint project have asked us if we can help with the turnout. They need at least 50 audience members to support the project that morning (without that, the segment won't happen) to be in the crowd outside on the plaza.

Things to be aware of:
* You would need to arrive at the CBS outdoor plaza (59th and 5th) at 7:15 a.m. and stay until 8:53 a.m.
* Family members and friends are welcome, but preferably no young children.
* Once the show is over, if you want, you could get a tour of the CBS studios.
* The Diabetes Handprint people will be giving out some t-shirts, hats, etc. and you may asked to wear one.
* They will have markers handy so you can write your word on your hand and show it with your arm raised when the camera pans to the audience.
* They may give out some signs and you could be asked to hold one up in the crowd or you can bring your homemade signs (and your word in your hand) to show.

Definitely had a blast! Met Helen, Lara (both briefly), Olga, Katie, Allison, LeeAnn... and a bunch of other folk from all sides of the D-equation!

Thank you for your RSVPs and for your support of the Global Diabetes
Handprint. We are delighted that you will be joining us on the CBS "Early
Show" plaza on Tuesday morning, June 2. Please remember to arrive no later
than 7:15 a.m. to the plaza, located on the southeast corner of 5th Avenue
and 59th Street. You should plan on being there until approximately 9 a.m.

When you arrive, look for my colleague, Helen Patrikis, and me - the PR team
for OneTouch. We'll be wearing Diabetes Handprint or OneTouch T-shirts and
hats so you can spot us easily. CBS staff will also be on hand to direct
you on where to go. We'll provide you with a t-shirt or a hat to wear and
perhaps a sign to hold, and you'll also be able to decorate your hand with
your own word, with washable markers that will be available for you. All
together, we'll create a powerful on-camera visual in support of this
wonderful project, which is helping to raise money for diabetes charities.
