Byetta or Pills?

I just started Byetta today and am anxious to see if it is better than Januvia or Avandia. This is a big step for me and I am looking to see how others feel about this new drug.

Hi Jeff, I found the Byetta to be a big help. I feel so much better. Before the Byetta I had a headache everyday. On the 5 mcg the nausea went a way in a couple of a weeks. I feel nauseated but am still glad for the choice to take it. Good luck

I have been taking 5mg of Byetta for 1 1/2 now. Started 10 today. I'm surprised at how nauseated I got again. Wow. Took me by surprised. I'm thinking of backing up to 15 rather then the 20 for a couple of days to see if it helps. However, I remember the last time it was a month or more before I felt better. Hope it helps the weight loss. I'm struggling again.

Hi, I've been on 5mg of Byetta for approximately 9 months now. I still have nausea after each dose but I live with it because of the benefits I have received from the drug.

I have been on the drug over one year. It works really well for me at controlling my levels. My A1c has been below 7 since I started using it. It upset my stomach for a while, but that passed. It does do a good job of making me "not hungry", but I haven't shed a lot of pounds yet.

i started back on byetta yesterday. i did the two weeks off of it and the numbers say that it is working. at least for helping to control the bs. last nights bs number was 129. it has been up in the 159 range for the evenings. mornings were up around 185. today's was 169. as far as the suppressing my apatite, we'll see. happy day all,

hi all,
on the 9th i stopped taking byetta as the doctor suggested for two weeks. the first couple of days it did go up about 20-30 points. the weird part is that the mid days and evenings have gone back down to where they have been. in the 135 to 145 range. the mornings were up in the 155-165 range and went up to 175-195 range. they are still up there. i got up at 3 am last night and checked it to see what it was and it was 176. i did have a glass of chocolate milk last night around 9 pm so maybe that was it. i would think that that would have been gone by then but i'm pretty dumb about some of this stuff yet. this morning numbers were up to 183, down by 10 but still up in that range. i'll let you know more later. any ideas would be appreciated. ok i know, no more chocolate milk. darn,,,curses. i did find a quik chocolate mix with no sugar added. i showed it to my doctor and he said that i could use it. BUT, i didn't use it last night because it doesn't mix with cold milk real well. out of all the things i can't have, losing chocolate milk has been the hardest to lose. usually in the mornings-hot- but for some reason last night was a bad night and i wanted it cold. i was very happy to find the quik no sugar cocoa mix. talk with everyone later,

I have been on Byetta for almost a year now. Once I got past the nausea it has worked great for me. I lost a little over 60lbs in the first 6 months and my last a1c was a 5.3 I don't know if it is better than what you were taking but I think it is a great drug.

Well the one thing I had a hard time with was remembering to use the Byetta in the evening. I am on 10mcg 2 times a day and I was always forgetting to take the evening shot. Well now I have been concentrating to just doing it when I get home from work. That has helped a lot. And I seem to have it in my head to use it. I have been slowly loosing weight and my blood sugars have come into line. I am stoked!!

And for Carol, last year my doc put me on Actos because my sugars were not in control. Well Actos helped some but after a whole year of feeling like crap, (Which I thought was all in my head) and develping Edema, I asked the doctor it and she was like, OH yeah that's one of the sideeffects for a small percentage of people. I was like, I haven't felt great for so long and here I was thinking it was me. Well, I switched to another med and man what a difference. Since then I was put on Byetta and its getting better I still have stomach issues but I am happy to say that I have lost a little bit of weight and I've on it since January. Good luck to you!
