I was originally dxd with t2 in 2002, but within 8 months was on insulin. Just this year I was re-dxd, correctly, with t1. My Paradigm 722 arrived last week and my first training session is tomorrow! I can hardly wait to be all hooked up! No more 5+ injections a day!! Yeah!!!!!
This site is a gold mine for info. I'll be back again and again looking for tips and advice.

It's a beautiful day in Toronto! Be sure to get out and soak up some sun and enjoy the spring breeze. Ah...life is sweet (in a sugar-free splenda sort of way...lol!) Enjoy!

Hi There Sharon: :)

I am sorry that you were dxd. with Diabetes but Welcome to our Club. We are Happy that you are here.

Your A1c is definitely high. Believe me. You are not the first or last Person to be nervous about needles. There is a cream called Emla that you can purchase at the Pharmacy if it 's the bit of pain that bothers you about needles. One of my Friends has been using it for years. He was terrifed of the imagined Great pain. Now he's Fine with shots. The Emla has to be put on the intended injection site about 1 hour before injecting so the site is numb and painless. I just use the 1/2 cc short syringes and inject fast. I'm Well experienced so it's no bother to me. Don't forget to rotate every shot.

Insulin will help a lot to bring your A1c down, along with carb counting and daily exercise. Since you live in Ontario you could also get a free pump later if you are interested in that type of Insulin delivery system. Lots of time to think about that. Right now you have a lot to learn. Just take it one step at a time so that you will not be overwhelmed with information. There is so much here, including Friends. You have come to the right place.

There are quite a few People here from the Toronto area. Look at the end of the discussions above and you will notice the words, View All. Click on it. On that page way at the bottom, click on page 2. There you will see the discussion called(I think :D ), "Where Are You"? There you can read where everyone is from. Add yourself. Click on the photos of the People from T.O.(this will take you to their page) and leave them a message if you like. I'm from Ottawa.
Welcome to TuDiabetes. :)

Hello,
I was just dx Jan 09 with T2 but the oral meds are only helping to an extent, so I'm probably a T1, now just waiting for more blood test results to confirm. I start insulin next week and have to say I'm really nervous about the needle, I'm not sure how I'm going to pull it off but I'll get through it somehow.

I live in Mississauga - is anybody else out this way?

Hi there. I live in Calgary Alberta and got Dx Feb 14, 2009 with T2. My daughter has been type 1 for over 13 years, my mother T2 for 30 years. So although I myself am new to this, I come with a lot of background knowledge. I know there are terrible complications of T2, but with my background I know that it doesn't have to be that way - so I am not scared. To all of you - take heart. Take it day by day and don't beat yourself up for the occasional high B Sugar - sometimes it doesn't matter what you do, the BS's act on their own.
