To Elizabeth and other Parents wondering: we're new to the pump - - 5 weeks! For an active eight year old boy this has been a godsend. When he says he wants another piece of pizza he gets to have another piece of pizza. We give another bolus, but NO SHOT. I think for parents it's hard to wrap your head around the mechanics of using a pump on our little ones. Where to wear it? for example. Well, there are pockets, and pouches and clips, and it works. Will he still be able to tumble around? Yes, it has not stopped him. At the very beginning he was a bit cautious, but now I don't believe he notices it most of the time. I have to be honest, the infusion set changes are the hardest; it scares him, it scares me. And it's always there. But I must say, the whole set-up is not quite as fragile as I thought it would be. The contact-detach infusion set is key, so it can be temporarily removed (like for baths).

We got the Animas Ping, which has a remote. You have no idea how great it is to be able to bolus your child from across the table until you've done it. Plus my son is shy, so he is loathe to take his pump out in public - - I can help keep his sense of privacy by using the remote. Honestly, I think what helps us also help our kids, especially when they are small.

The medical pros to the pump are many, for another time....

My first Thanksgiving on the Pump. Also, my first Thanksgiving in over twenty plus years that, I too could eat what, I wanted!! Thanks my little pink friend "Ping".
What a wonderful thing to just be able to Bolus and enjoy like everyone else.
I hope everyone had as wonderful a day as I did.

My son's endocrinologist has recommended the pump for him, even though he's only 18 months. I'd like to know from pump users, what are the pros and cons, and can you put yourselves in the perspective of a kid 18 months old and give me a clue as to whether this would be good for him or not? I know it would be good for ME, but I don't want to make the transition based on that--I want to make it based on what's best for HIM.

Took me 3 days. They overnighted it from Mfg. He and I were on the same page!

Hello,
I have a daughter who's been on the pump now for 3 years and when we started out we had no idea how to hold the pump. I started searching online and came across a website www.pumpwearinc.com that has lots of products for both children and adults on innovative fun ways to hold the pump. We found lots of products useful there over the past years. Just thought I'd share.
