Hello all. I am new to TuDiabetes and look forward to getting and receiving good advice about our affliction...

To Brenna Collyard: I have a great endo that I recently started seeing and she is the one that got me on the pump. She is a very smart person that won't tell you what you want to hear she will tell you how it is, and she doesn't sugar coat anything. She may seem a bit abrasive at first but you will leave her office in appreciation as I did. Her name is Dr. Chioma Iweha (pronounced ~ eeway ha) she works for Panda Medical Associates and thher office is located in the Arrowhead area(83rd Avenue and Bell Road, Phoenix), and she has a GREAT diabetic educator that works in her office that trained me on my pump therapy...hope that is close to your general area...

Brenna? Thanks for your note. I am calling the diabetes education specialist this afternoon! Would you mind telling me what PCOS is? I see those letters a lot but don't know what they mean. I am tired all the time and it takes a great deal of willpower to get on the elliptical everyday. So far so good (o.k., well usually). I am determined though to find a comfortable spot in the midst of this little bit of discomfort. My fingertips hurt though! Does that go away? Let us know when you find a good Endo in your area. We will all keep a good thought!

I see Dr. Westphal at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale and also an educator and nutritionist they are all great and have learned alot. Good luck it is hard to find a place where you feel comfortable.

Thanks for the support Peggy! Also I kinda know what your going through; I have a thyroid condition, type one, and also my doc has started me on Metformin for what she thinks might be PCOS. It is frustrating to have a hypo thyroid, I know how being tired all the time can be. I have been managing it for about 4 years now with little change to my synthroid dosage. I don't think that the Metformin would effect the thyroid meds. It hasn't in my case, that I know of, but blood work would be the only way to know for sure. So definitely a good endo is needed when you have a thyroid cond. and diabetes! I love my diabetic educator, I have learned more from her than anyone else I have ever talked to (granted I have only had the betes since Sept.). Also, I was told to take a multi-vitamin while taking metformin I think because they said it could lower the natural amount in your body??? I take a women's one a day and I feel great. However don't take the multi-vitamin at the same time as your thyroid med because it could interfere w/ proper absorption of the thyroid med. As far as having a bs spike in the am... I don't know... something a diabetes educator would know about for sure.

Yikes. Impossible to get in AND surly staff It seems that there is a bit of a shortage of Endo's in the west. Hopefully someone from in your area will be of some help. Good luck to you!

Does anyone have a great Endo in Phoenix area they could recommend? Mine is nice, however it's impossible to make an apt. within a 3 month period, and her staff is really surly!

I found an endo doc but can't get in until late July. That's o.k., the preferred Doctor did not have an opening until December. Sorry to bombard with questions but I am so sleepy tired all the time. They just upped my dosage of thyroid meds but could it be the metformin? Mostly just in the a.m. when I still have that early a.m. blood sugar spike. Anyone else have this going on?

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome. I am on the hunt for an endocr. doc. It isn't as easy at is would seem here in Vegas. My a.m. numbers are really high. 168 this a.m. In the afternoon it is about 135 but has gone as low as 108. This is quite a range in a given day. I have started using the eliptical and have lost about 20lbs. Still thirsty all the time though. Other people's experiences is really helpful to me in finding my way . Best to all of you. UTAH FOLKS? Where? Lived there for 10 years. LOVED IT. Mother in law lives in Tempe and other in laws in Mesa.

Wow that sounds crazy you might want to consider seeing an endocrinologist, educator and also a nutritionist. I see a nutritionist once a month at the mayo clinic here in Scottsdale and the educator once every other month for updates with my medication (I am type II but I do shots of insulin plus oral meds). I was seeing my family physician for a year and a half he was a great guy but I do not think he was ready to handle my situation (gave lots of wrong info). It isn't that I can't have chocolate cake but is something that I give alot of thought to. Good luck and hope you gets lots of helpful info I know I have and everybody is always willing to answer any questions.
