Told Tim of your offer & he requests that you please start on your publishing career pronto:)

Ooo, I like this guy very much! And, he's coming to see you soon--that's great. At least if you have to use girly skates, he's the type who will pick you up when you fall & stay close by.

Drinking lowers my BG fast. I don't drink much either. A couple of glasses of wine is my limit, but I couldn't handle much alcohol even before being diagnosed. Can't drink beer at all now because I only like the rich ones like Guinness. Drops me like a rock & then goes up from the carbs.

I don't mind staying home on New Year's. To me, it's one of those holidays were everyone is trying too hard to have a good time.

Many hugs to you!

That's a great dream. Maybe it will come true.

A bopping stick would have been good for the bitchy agent. Think she was a dietician in a previous life. Tim was so excited to sign a contract with her & she dashed his hopes.

Wonder why sometimes we bruise from injections. Do you pinch your skin up first? I do, but was told not to because this causes bruising. Ever since I got smaller needles, I haven't had those awful marks. Do hate when I hit a vein & bleed because then there's the chance of the insulin hitting too quickly.

Had a quiet, stay at home New Year's Eve. Boring! Spent too many years waiting tables & tending bar on this holiday while in school. It
ruined New Year's as something fun for me.

How was your celebration & 24-hour trip? Any ice skating this time?

Lots of hugs!

Attempting to get published isn't for the faint of heart. Assuming that it's the same in NI, but at least you come from a culture of literacy. For Tim to even have a shot of getting published by a decent sized press, he needed an agent. To get a good agent, you first have to have some success. The old Catch 22. He did manage to get two agents interested (that in itself was a humbling experience), but they were both useless. One was a horrible bitch, a real piece of work.

So true! Publishing has gotten worse in the last decade or two. There are fewer publishers, for one thing. Several huge ones have gone under. If you're a writer of real literature, it's tough. All they want is highly marketable junk--romance novels, self-help books, diet books, celebrity gossip, glossy coffee table books.

A friend has a sister who writes historical (ha!) romance novels--very British. Bodice rippers, is what Tim calls them. Evangeline glanced out the window hoping that Lord Geoffrey wouldn't see her stealing a glance. As he dismounted his chestnut mare & handed his crop to the stable boy, the wind caught a wayward lock of his thick hair. Evangeline could feel her heart pounding. UGH! Susan (her pen name is Liz Carlyle) makes a fortune writing this ghastly crap & gets huge advances. Even for the genre, it isn't well written.

Sorry about your pump. Things take a backseat during the holidays with those people--an excuse for them to be lazy.

Many hugs back!

Bookworm here, too. I'd never have the dedication to be a writer & I'd never be able to handle the constant rejection either. Tim's books have been published by small presses. He's got to do his own promotion, which is against his shy nature. He's never made any money from his writing. In fact, with all the mailings he has to do, we've lost money:)

Guess no word on your pump?

May the new year be filled with lots of fun adventures!

Sending you hugs.

We went to a friend's Christmas Eve party. Very fun! Her husband is Jewish, she's not, so they celebrate all holidays. Tim doesn't care about Christmas at all.

Man, is that aggravating about your lows as a child. How could anyone not follow your mother's instructions!

Funny what you said about being a professor because Tim is a shy person & uncomfortable with people he doesn't know. When we go to parties where he won't know a lot of the people there, he gives me instructions to stay close by. I can talk to anyone, anywhere about anything:) When he's the in-charge person in his classroom, he's a different person. Always astounded me. I guess it's similar to actors being quite shy & how they're fine when they take on the persona of a character--something to hide behind. He also does readings of his work, which is equally astounding to me. If you want to check out his site: www.timpoland.com. He just took a bunch of stuff off his site, but his best poems are about Ireland. The lead photo is Ireland, of course.

A 24-hour trip--love it! Impulsive is good.

Will have to tell Tim about the American student. Maybe the Irish students have inspired him. Imagine that anyone who studies abroad is very motivated & not the typical lazy ass American student.

Hugs to you!

Here's more proof about getting dumber by the year, but in this case it's by the day. I forgot to take my bedtime Levemir last night. Loaded up the syringe & never injected it. Woke up to a BG of over 200. Ruins the whole freaking day.

Seems like it would be safer to run a bit high than risk hypos as kid. Imagine how embarrassing that would be & how unkind children are. I know I'm a ditz when I'm low. I've drilled my friends on what to do & how I'll act if I'm really low. Of course, smartass friends said it may be hard for them to tell the difference.

American students have it easy. Long Christmas break at the end of the semester. Tim's a university college professor--Eng literature. He's had quite a few foreign students (none from NI) & is impressed with how much harder they work, the higher quality of their work & how much more self-directed they are. And, for most of them English is a second language to boot! Two of his best gard students were from France & Russia.

Awesome that you're going to Cork for New Year's Eve. Can't wait to hear of all the mischief.

Hugs back at ya!

Quite an accomplishment not having scary serious hypos in all those years & as a kid, too! I've had some bad ones in a far shorter time span. They're awful & I can feel my brain cells dying. I have a theory that we're all brilliant as children & get dumber with each year:)

Ooo, I've never been exotic before--cool. You have to go to NYC at some point. Realize I'm biased & Tim says New Yorkers obnoxiously believe that it's the center of the universe, but it is a great place.

What a bummer about your Christmas holiday. Here, the semester is over before Christmas & no finals afterwards.

Hmmm, a visitor from Cork. Have fun & get into lots of mischief!

Used to have that conversation with our volunteers at the crisis center. They'd say these people do have emotional problems & still needed help. Yep, they certainly do, but they're not calling seeking help. They just want an audience.

Wishing you a wonderful week.

Lots 'o hugs!

I've overdosed myself, too. Imagine we all have. I once took two rapid acting Apidra in the morning, instead of one Apidra & one basal. Dropped like a rock & almost passed out cold. You know how fuzzy & stupid you feel when low, so I couldn't figure out what I had done until afterwards.

Hope you're feeling better now. Does take a while to recover after one of those episodes.

Glad you'll have time for more mischief soon. How long do you have for Christmas break?

Great idea about rhubarb!

Understand about the carb counting. Preparing yourself by doing this for your pump & feeling the frustration--yep.

I should have known that sex callers would be a universal thing at any center. No lack of creeps & perverts on any continent. Really yucky since yours is a kid's center. Never forget one guy who was a regular. We named him Ken/Kim. His particular thing was talking about a gender change. A legit reason to call a mental health crisis center, but he was a sicko & all the new volunteers would fall for his story. Was variations on a theme for years. He had a sex change, he didn't have a sex change, he went out with a guy & the guy thought he was a woman. Real issues, but this creep got off on talking about. We had a whole book on our regular preverts to alert the volunteers to their individual fetishes.

I'm Jewish (Tim isn't), so Christmas is different for me. I love seeing other people's trees & decorations. Growing up in NYC at Christmas was pure magic. The city is always decked out to the max & beautiful! Another reason for wanting to ice skate so I could twirl around in Rockefeller Plaza. Not that that ever happened:)

Hugs to you!

Know you are swamped with school work. Too busy to get into trouble, but hope you are finding time for some mischief now & again.

Pumpkin is an American thing for sure. Like most squash, it doesn't have much flavor, so spices & other ingredients are needed. Do you have rhubarb? Never understood eating this vegetable. Only way I've seen it prepared is in pie. Rhubarb is so awfully bitter that tons of sugar & fruit have to be added. What's the point!

How's the carb counting going? Have you been stalking nurse & doctor about news of your pump?

Suicide calls--is rewarding. I only had about 5 in the years I worked at the crisis center. Those were in the days before things like caller ID & we'd have to get the phone company to put a trace on the line in case medical help was needed. Most of our calls were from people who were having a situational type crisis & needed support & someone to talk to. We also got a lot of calls from the chronically mentally ill. Those were the hardest to deal with. The worst calls were from sex wackos. What better place to have an audience for phone deviants than a 24-hour center with people trained to be empathic & nonjudgemental. Most of our volunteers were university student females. Ooo & these guys were quite clever at luring the volunteers in with tales of woe before they got down to business--ugh!

I'm doing pretty well lately. Hope you are as well.

Hugs & more.
