Does anybody do something special for World Diabetes Day? And I don't mean wear blue. Do you meet up with other diabetics? Do something special with your family/friends? I've only been a diabetic for one year... so I didn't do anything last year. ...

I saw your post on Diabetes Trials. I know there is at least one study for people dxd within the last 4 years, but it is Seattle. I am not sure if they can use other clinics to moniter treatment etc... Their email is: diabetes@benaroyaResearch.org

They also have a register on their website for those interested in helping. It is the Benaroya Research Institute, Seattle WA.

Keep trying there are studies outthere!

Alright... well... here are some things about me:

- I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 6 months ago.
- I am on an Omnipod pump. I've been using it for 3 months. For those who are wondering if the pump is really that great: YES!!!!! It is making my life easier!!! get one!
- I am from a family of only girls. 4 sisters. Ahh... I love it, though. I couldn't have asked for a better family.
- I am a Christian. I love God and trust Him in all things, including my health issues. I'm not, nor have I ever been angry at God for my diagnosis. As a matter of fact, I believe he'll use diabetes to shape who I become. _ 1st Peter 4:12-13 "Beloved, do not be suprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But REJOICE insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed." (my best friend's mom gave these verses to me shortly after i was diagnosed. it really opened my eyes)
- I am homeschooled. Not that this really matters to you guys... but... lol. I thought I'd say it anyways. Try not to be stereotypical about homeschoolers. Even I can be at times, though! Just to make it clear - I am not anti-social, I don't wear jumpers and turtlenecks, and you wouldn't be able to tell I'm homeschooled if we met. HOWEVER, I'm also not one of the kids who's homeschooled because they were kicked out of school. I've always been homeschooled... and it was just the choice my parents made for me and my sisters. I totally agree with that choice they made for us. I've been blessed with an excellent education AND I still grew up plenty socialized. lol.
- I'm not a cranky stiff person who can't have fun. As a matter of fact, I have a crazy sense of humor. I'll laugh at just about anything. I love to joke and be sarcastic. However, I do have strong morals and do not enjoy foul language or inappropriate stuff. So, just keep in mind that I don't appreciate stuff like that. Thankfully, though... I haven't seen much stuff on this site that offends me. What a blessing! A website that is meant for encouragement and uplifting! That's why I love this place so much!!!
- Though I love to joke around and have fun... I also can really get into a serious mode when I want to. So.... feel free to talk about serious things with me. It's almost like there are always 2 Emily's ready to talk to: crazy and random emily... and serious and compassionate emily. lol.
- I love this website and what it stands for.
- I know there are plenty of things that I should probably write in here... but... I'll finish writing that stuff later....

Me and my two best friends walking at the JDRF Walk in October...

One year later...

So. A year ago, on August 17th, 2008, I was diagnosed. What a year. Honestly. It's been crazy. In one way, it went by really fast, but... more than that, I can't believe it's only been a year. Does anyone else feel like that? I can't remember what it was like to not be doing this. This is my life! I don't remember what it was like eat chips out of the bag... and not be counting in my head as i eat each one. So... although it's been a fast year, this is my life, and it feels like i've always been… Continue

Okay... so... I rewrote "My Humps" by Black Eyed Peas to be "My Pump". If you listen to the song... it basically goes along with the recording. I've only done some of it. But.... here it is so far... (Oh, and it's specifically about the omnipod pump)

What you gonna do with all those tubes, all them tubes up in your pump?
I'mma gonna get get get them out. Throw them out and get that lump!
My pump, my pump, my pump, my pump, my pump, my pump... my lovely little lump!

Sad Weekend...

Well, I had a sad weekend. My first sad weekend since I've been diagnosed, really. When I first got back from the hospital, I cried a few times. But, Sunday afternoon, I was basically home alone. In my room. Listening to really emotionally-driven music. Not a good combination. And, earlier that day, something had happened that made me feel really alone in being diabetic. I felt like: 1) i was a burden, being diabetic. 2) people outside of my close friends and family didn't even know what diabete… Continue
