Hi Kelly -
Thanks for your answers. Sometimes I feel like complications are almost a taboo subject, so it's nice to see that there are others who do put strong effort into controlling their diabetes yet still run into complications. My doc is an opthalmologist and claims to be a retinal specialist as well. I will keep an eye on the situation (so to speak) and see what happens at the next annual.
One question I never seem to see an answer to, maybe you can answer for me. When you get retinal laser therapy, what exactly happens? Does your vision improve, or does it just contain it to keep it from getting worse? I must admit that this is the complication that scares me the most, and as fate has it it is the first one to hit me. I just want to understand the process better.
Just saw your invite--I am less and less able to find time to be online lately, with the holidays and all the end-of-year craziness. I am TOTALLY ON BOARD with your rant about sweets. I'm going on a sugar strike come January 1--I wanted to do it right after t-giving but it was just impossible. It was like the damn things leaped into my mouth if I opened it even to breathe.

It seems like you joined the community at the peak of all the stuff going on when we announced the partnership with LifeScan. It's such an honor to have you as a member, Kelly!
Wow. I've never thought of myself as a diabetes veteran, but with more than a quarter century of "on-the-job" experience, I guess I qualify. Still learning, still living.
So here's a salute to all of us, whether 35-year veterans or 3.5-day newbies. We rock!
I was diagnosed the September before you. So we've had this thing for about 35 years each (despite what Steve says :-)).
Welcome to TuDiabetes. Do have a look at the groups, especially the one for diabetes veterans. I wish that would take off more, but I don't think it's reached critical mass.

You said it "still learning, still living" everyday.
