30 years and still going strong….a novella by Mick

Today is the 30th birthday of my diabetes. Big day, for sure. I’m not sure if I didn’t think I would get here, but it is definitely a momentous occasion. One of my favorite books about diabetes in called… Continue

REQUEST FOR CGMS: DENIED BY INSURANCE

I have been both personally and professionally affected by the ongoing denial of CGM coverage by medical insurance companies. I have felt, since the first time I wore a CGM system, that this technology represented an astounding leap forward in the management of diabetes. To know what fo… Continue

Bad timing, poor preparation, no fun...

I had been raving, to anyone who would listen, about the Inset 30 for the last several weeks. No occlusion alarms, more stable sugars, comfortable going in, etc, etc... So, yesterday AM I put in a new set and sugars are ok during the day, not great. I had a high after lunch and then over-treated resulting in a low. Overall, I though that the set was functioning ok. Last night I had tickets to the final Celtics game of the season. I can't stress enough how excited I was. I've loved this team, th… Continue

For Type 1 diabetes awareness day

Things are crazy busy right now, I have to give a 1 hour presentation on Vitamin D at the hospital tomorrow morning. Why do I always wait until the last moment to finish my slides? This is a song that I love and feel sums up some of the feelings of type 1 diabetes. It's not as personal as "my story" but it's what I can do today. Pray For Grace By Michael Franti & Spearhead Chorus: Why must I feel like this today? I'm a soldier but afraid sometimes To face the things that may… Continue

i have an aunt who lives in bangor. she has lived there ever since i was a little girl. she lives out by the old air force airport. i can still remember those old planes coming and going. i was sleeping once when we were almost to her house and my dad said debb wake up and look at this. it looked like the darn plane was going to land on us. it freaked me out real bad. i remember everyone laughing at me because of it.
i sure hope you can get back home soon. we are getting a lot of rain and high winds. i think i'm going to bunker down and stay in where it is warm and dry. hopefully it will die out before getting to you guys. this wind is the last thing you need.

Happy Birthday, Mick! Hope you have an awesome day! Actually, have an awesome month. Because... in my family, we like to think of them as "birth-months" instead of just "birth-days". so... celebrate for the next few weeks, too!!! Enjoy your time with your family and friends!

Oooh, there's a new generation of the omnipod coming out? That's awesome! Unfortunately, I think I had to stick with this one for 4-5 years because of insurance. Oh well. I'm still glad I got it. Yeah, I'm sure the absorbtion rate in the arm is different. Also, because, after using the stomach so long for injections and pumps... there is a lot scar tissue! I've only been doing injections for 4 months... but I can already tell.
