Hi! I am the founder of TuDiabetes.com. In April 2008 we started the Diabetes Hands Foundation, a nonprofit with the goal of having no people with diabetes feel alone and people without diabetes learning more about what it's like to live with diabetes.

I come from Venezuela. I first went to school there and then went to Cornell University (in New York state), where I obtained my M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering. Still I have found my true professional love to lie in the web space, so I eventually became a Web Product Manager. Since January 2008, I live with my family in the Bay Area, California.

I was diagnosed with diabetes in late 2002 (initially diagnosed and treated as type II) and formally starting shooting insulin (effectively called a "type I") in 2003. I got on the insulin pump (Minimed 515) in July 2005. I am constantly working on exercising more: that is my constant struggle. In 2007, I learned that I actually have type 1.5 diabetes!

Since September 2007, I started writing a monthly column called "Hola Diabetes" for dLife in English and Spanish, aimed at the Latino community. Between May 2008 and March 2009, I wrote the column "Diabetes Hacker" in MyDiabetesCentral.com.

What in the world are you doing messing around on the Internet at 01:33 in the morning, Manny? I have so many pain problems that I don't get much sleep, but a guy like you should be sawing logs!

AND, THANK YOU for doing tudiabetes.org/com so people like me who know nothing about diabetes have a cool place to come to, to be able to talk to others with the same problems as we have. To join into support groups. To make wwwfriends.

I have NEVER really been told;"You HAVE this type of diabetes" by any of the Drs I have ever gone too. Now I will see if I can figure that out so I KNOW what questions to ASK the next time I go see John (my Dr). Figure out a plan of attact!

That the Big D is PROBABLY the cause of at least SOME of my PAIN problems. It IS nuts, having to take $2,340.00 worth of pain drugs every month just to be able to function a little bit at a reduced capacity. That some days I spend 24 in bed. THAT is CRAZY! NOT good at all.

So, now I start on a learning quest, to help myself with help from others on here.

Thanks for adding me as a friend, Manny!

Manny, just wanted to say a big "Thank You" for this site. It's like online diabetes camp, the camp I never got to attend as a kid/teen with D (too expensive and too far away back in the 70's, aka the dark days of D). Access to so many people who are so friendly and knowledgable. I'm a "regular" on the CWD parents list, both of my daughters were also D'xed at infants with type 1, but this is the first geared more for adults site that I really like, Thank you again so much!

I'm finally back on-line. Don't know why I haven't been able to get into things for three weeks, but they just as suddenly started up again this evening! YEAH!!!!

It's been really tough for me realizing that I won't be home in time for my birthday to say nothing about Christmas! (boo hoo!) I had a grand old crying jag of a pity party for myself this afternoon while we were talking in Occupational Therapy. Boy what a bummer I am .... brought the whole room down on that one. Then my next-door neighbor [in this nuthouse] started teasing me to get me laughing and the pity party ended just as fast as it started.

I am getting what is called derma grafts. That is, they take a sheet of frozen cells from the leftover skin of a baby boy's circumcision and reconstitute them and apply the sheet to my feet. Cover it up where the nurses can't screw it up. It is repeated once per week for eight weeks. There has been some signs of new cell growth around the edges.

This place sucks big time!! Yucky (mild expletive!), lazy CNA's, stupid nurses (only some) and even weirder residents. I can spend an hour just sitting and waiting for someone to answer my call button. Sometimes I'm on the commode for that time. Talk about getting numb buns!!!!! Arrrrrrgh!

Well, better move on to bigger and better things!! Many more messages to answer and/or delete! Talk to you soon ..... I hope!

I am finally back on the internet!! Someone or something changed my settings and I can't seem to get onto my e-mail. That left me about 3 weeks in purgatory!!

I'll e-mail more when I answer all the accumulated messages. Got 155, including spam!!

hi Manny, thanks for the number. I have had such a lot of support on this site that I would be a very selfish person if I went ahead and ended it all. If you ever need a reason to feel good, please remember me and the life you helped save in so many ways. Stay well

Hi Manny,
I just heard back from Ellen about the "World Diabetes Day" Event at the SF Ferry Building event on Nov. 14. Unfortunately she has a previous engagement planned for that whole day, so she is unable to make it. We both feel like this would be a great event for our G.A.T.E. support & activities group to do for next year though, if this is something that they do annually. Do you do this event every year at the SF Ferry Building? Perhaps we can collaborate on this for next year if we are both able to do it.

Hi Manny. Thank you for welcoming me into the TuDiabetes community. I can't wait to see the last winning videos of the "Making Sense of Diabetes" video contest. It has been interesting to see how everyone relates to diabetes through the 5 senses. Looking forward to meeting more people touched by diabetes :-)

Hi Manny,
Thanks for the event information for the "World Diabetes Day" at the Ferry Building in SF on Nov. 14. I will talk to Ellen and see if she is able to make it. I will also post the event info on the G.A.T.E. online message board. As soon as I find out if we can both make it I will let you know.
:) Margaret
