Yes. In fact, we were told to prebolus 15 minutes. Don't prebolus anymore unless it is a problem food as she is such a slow eater. Will prebolus only very fast acting carbs.

There are some after-school programs that will take her, I'm sure. If it is held at the school I believe they cannot discriminate. It is going to be a challenge, I'll give you that. I wonder if you have a local Y or Boys and Girls Club that might ...

Oh, yes, very frustrating. Almost always because she is lying on the sensor. I roll her over and will then be able to get readings in about five minutes. But she can and does roll back..... I think changing the location of the sensor will probably...

Dana Carpenter is pretty famous for writing low carb cookbooks. Then there are the low carb websites, Living la vida low carb, low carb friends. I think anything low in calories is also going to be lower in carbs.

Endo should prescribe this. At this point, with all the recent documentation available, it is the insurance companies that are the holdouts. If the endo will not prescribe what you need, call Dexcom and see if they will give you the number of an e...

This is something I thought I would never do....

Hello. Although I have been assiduously reading every blog I could get my hands on regarding Type 1 Diabetes, blogging is something I thought I would never do personally. I am the aunt of a Type 1, 10-year-old girl, diagnosed at the age of 8. Her mother and I work different shifts and trade off on her care. I am constantly searching for more information on how to better manage and treat this disease. Hoping for the cure.... My hopes have been dashed, however, by non-passage of S5, THE STEM CELL… Continue

Hi Jan,

I noticed you were talking about doing switch from the minimed cgm to dexcom. I, too, have the minimed one and a few days posted a discussion in the dexcom group wondering if people who OWNED the minimed cgm were able to make the switch? Were you ultimately able to do this switch? If so, would you mind explaining how the insurance reacted/handled it... this is my worry right now.

Thank you so much!

Hi Jan. Of course we need a cure--for all the reasons you mentioned in your comment and for everything that I mentioned in the last paragraph of my blog post. Hopefully you can see past your perception of it being a seemingly negative post and understand that we are all in this together.

I read about your niece's "itchy" feeling when low. I have numbness in my hands and legs when I go low. I really panicked about it, told the endo, and she also said it was no big deal. I think that any reaction when we go low is more likely a way that our body tells us "I NEED SUGAR", rather than an indication of some complication. That's just my theory :)

I find that the MP3 case on the lower leg does not slip down, but I have to put it on relatively tightly. I found that if I wear a tall sock underneath it, then it is more comfortable. I have worn this on days when I am really running around and there was no problem!

I also wear the same case on my thigh. It has a velcro strap that you can use to loosen or tighten.

Here is one place where you can order it.

I wanted to leave you a supportive comment about Grandma just not getting it. I so get what you mean. Every member of my family of origin talks about how much sugar I eat because I "indulge" at family events. I went to McDonalds sometimes as a kid too, it was a great treat. I was the pickiest eater you ever met (except a cousin of mine). Some people will never get it. (I found my appetite at age 12, started eating anything at 16.) Blessings!

Hi Jan,
Thank you so much for the hugs and the kind support. Our wonderful Tu diabetes family has been so good to me. I sent a couple of messages to Manny and get back this beautiful out pouring of support and loving kindness. I have shed a few tears of gratitude over this. God has been so good to me. I will look forward to coming back and letting everyone know I am okay. In the meantime take care and blessings be to you.
