Adam, a bolus is a "shot" (either by syringe, pen, or pump) of fast acting insulin, used for either of 2 purposes: 1) to cover carbs in your food, and 2) to correct for a high bg. So...you already are bolusing. :)

first week on pump

Well its been one week on the pump and it was a little slow going getting the basal setting right, I dont know if they are there yet, I still am pretty high in the morning. The past few days have been ok, no numbers above 200. I am just telling myself that a slow start to get sugars right is better than alot of lows. I am not bothered by wearing it, at night I just put it in a baby sock so that it feels softer. I guess the true test will be my next a1c in march. Wish me well .

started the pump

I started my pump today at 10am. I had a few issues with the infusion set sticking but it got figured out. I went a little low twice so far, so I guess the trainer was right about needing less insulin than with shots, I thought I would be high all day, but not the case . Hopefully tonight goes well. I am excited about not doing a shot before every morsel of food. Any tips from fellow pumpers on anything would be great. Thanks

I got my pump today

I got my pump today and will start on practice of saline on thursday to get used to it, then on xmas eve I will start with the insulin. I am excited and very nervous at the same time. The only problem is they sent me wrong color, I called them and they are overnighting the correct one and sending me some free skins for it, how cool is that. I am not starting the CGM because I cannot afford it yet, my insurance only is paying half of the pump and supplies, so I will reassess things in a year or s… Continue

JDRF WALK

Today me and my family did the JDRF walk in Philadelphia. Weather was great and got lots of free stuff. Me and my family raised $790. Its pretty amazing to see all those people who care to do something about this disease. I get upset when I see the little kids with it, I know what I have to deal with me having it, and I think if it were my kids , well it just makes me really pray for the future of research to do something. So, to anyone who has done this walk before, GOOD FOR YOU, and to those w… Continue

Hey Lynn, My good friend from high school lived in West Chester. Her Dad was a veterinarian. I went to WIlmington Friends School although I lived about 45 minutes south of there. Now I live up near the Poconos - it sure is cold. Hope your pumping is going well. My son has been pumping for 3 years. I say it is great when it is working but when it goes bad, it goes bad fast!!!! I love it for him and the flexibility it gives him. He is really good about it . - But I am still changing his sites. Hope you are well Nancy

Ahh! That must be me too then, I was dx with T1 at 36. They told me I had Juvenile Diabetes back then. I must admit my reactions & frustrations lately around living with T1 have been called 'adolescent'. The old ostrich story...I put my head under the ground and hope my illness will all disappear..or give up & go on strike. Saying that...think I'll go for a brisk walk for 30 mins right now...turning into a responsible adult at last! Later...Ax
