my insurance company just replaced my old accu-chek advantage meter with the accu-chek aviva meter.
first........ the difference in time waiting for the numbers was, WOW, very fast.
second... it takes way less blood.
third...... my numbers were LOWER.
that could explain why i was surprised when my last A1C was 6.5, when i was expecting it to be higher. my numbers were going up, but my A1C hadn't changed. good thing the insurance company offered me the new meter. it was free so i figured, what the heck, why not. my co-pay for the test strips was the same, but the lancets were actually $2.00 cheaper. i think this is the first time i've actually fallen into a pile of poo and come out smelling like a rose. makes me think, what's the catch?
my numbers are actually within range now and i'm not freaking out when i see them. i didn't realize meters could decrease in accuracy when they get older. i decided to check the difference between them. i checked my bs with the advantage and it was 170. i then checked my bs with the aviva and it was 118. see why i'm excited. that's a difference of 52. i wish we could all have great days like that every day.

Wow that is a big difference!!! We are thinking of switching from Onetouch to Aviva.

one touch is suppose to be the best in accuracy, from what i've read. check it all out first. your meter may be better then mine if it's relitivly new. if your doctor's office has either one see if they will do a reading and then do one with your's at the same time. no point in changing if the numbers are accurate. i would have liked a one touch if my insurance company had been willing to give me a new one of those. although, i'm not complaining with my new numbers. not at all. my morning reading today was 128. i haven't seen one of those in quite some time. i was starting to worry about why my morning numbers were so high. consistantly. i'm glad it was due to an old meter and not something else.
