Diabetes first or Epilepsy first

Which did you get diagnosed with first? Does low blood sugar affect the epilepsy? My family member has had Diabetes first, then 2 years later Epilepsy triggered by lows. Unfortunately we had a poor endo group who failed to recognize it as out of the norm, until s/he had more than 10 episodes. I referred us to a neuro. And I left that group ...malpractice...

I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was 9 y/o.It happened from a head injury in Kindergarten. It was really hard growing up.Kids can be so cruel. You would've thought I had leprosy or something.I had about 4 really good friends. After having my brain surgery at 16 I had about 3 good years after that then I was diagnosed with Type 1.I could have a seizure if I go too low, yes. The only thing that really miffs me about the Epilepsy is that when in highschool in grade 10 everyone was getting their driver's license.I knew I wouldn't be able to drive. It really sucked.

So what did you do or do you do about driving?

Hi Kelly! Well,I rely alot on my husband to for the groceries and things, but when my boys were young and I needed to take them to the doctor's I relied on my mom and my mother-in-law.When I want to go somewhere on my own I ride my bike or walk.If it is far I take the bus.I really don't go alot of places so I guess that is a good thing.Hey,life goes on.

I haven't been officially diagnosed, but I have had what I think are absence seizures most of my life, and I have the "grand mal" (or whatever you call them) type of seizure when I go really low. Nothing like waking up in the middle of the living room with carpet burn and discovering that you have strewn your CD collection all over the apartment.

Maybe those with diagnosed epilepsy can help me out. Where did you go for a diagnosis? What kind of tests did they run? I had one brief EEG done and it was inconclusive. Apparently autistic people (I am high-function autistic) are more likely to have seizure disorders, but I do not know how to get a proper diagnosis. I don't have to worry about medical costs, but I do not know what kind of tests to ask for.

went to neurologist who ran a 24 hour EEG and did an MRI of the brain. It looks for specific spots, if focal seizures, and if none, they are generalized.

My son, Westin, was just diagnosed with Benign Childhood Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (BCECTS), also known as benign rolandic epilepsy. He is 10 years old. He was dx'd with type 1 at 2. Blood sugars have been around 150 two times and 270 the third time he seized. He is now on Trileptal.
