Your A1C

Some people get upset when I ask this question, but here goes.

What was your last A1C result? Just curious is my reason for asking.

Mine was 6.6.

It's not the low A1C that causes the swings - BUT wide swings may result in a low A1C; therefore, low A1C doesn't mean much.

Physicians are beginning to realize this factor, and many have stopped worshiping at the alter of low A1C. A diabetic with a 7.2 A1C may be much healthier than one with a 5.0.

Even with the pump, there are time when the insulin seems ineffectual. I will start another thread on this.

Cheers!

I have a low A1c and I didn't achieve it by having serious hypos. I achieved it by counting carbs correctly and insulin dosing from my pump correctly. I rarely have swings anymore since I started the pump.

Oh good....something else to worry about. I hadn't been overly concerned about complications caused by the lows....of course trying to avoid them for the obvious reasons, but not long term. I seem to learn something new everyday here.
A lot of personal research is involved in knowing what works for you......keeping #'s in a reasonable range. To add to your points about individual responses and the contrary body doing its own thing, we have to add the fact that what works with our cantankerous bodies one day, week, year, might be completely different the next thanks to any hundreds of factors, compromised organs certainly being one.

My last one was 5.4 (I'm Type 1) but my doctor told me this was too low and I should decrease my insulin to avoid hypos! He also suggested using Metformin to allow me to reduce my daily insulin dosage and help me to lose weight. Anyone else heard of overweight Type 1s using Metformin to help lose weight???

5.8 and 5.9 were my last two, and I am really happy about it. i have really worked hard and tested alot to make those numbers happen. Just proof that you can do anything, if you focus and make it a priority.
