INTRODUCTION
I just found this community after seeing Kerri Morrone's "Six Until Me" website. I had no idea this was available. What a great idea. I've been participating in Yahoo Groups for years, but this resource is focused on those living with diabetes. I look forward to participating here.

I was diagnosed as Type I while I was in high school 25 years ago. I took multiple daily injections for 19 years before switching to the pump in 2001. (Started with a Minimed 508, then upgraded to the 722 last year.) Can't say the pump has been perfect, but it does allow me much more flexibility. Still have more improvement to go on the regimen/ratio, but it's always a work in progress! I do stay somewhat active with walking and hiking, so that's helped me remain pretty healthy. (I participated in the JDRF walkathon last year and raised $805, yeah!) It's always a challenge to balance work and social life with the diabetes care, but we do what we can.

Thanks for visiting!

Diabetes and heart disease: A fatal link

CNN has a good article about diabetes and heart disease, written by correspondent Ann Curley, who is a type I diabetic:

Diabetes and heart disease: A fatal link

I've always had very good blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Still need to work on those bg's though!

Hi Joe! We have at least one other thing in common- I like to hike too.

I just started a little over a week ago with the CGMS. I'm liking it so far. It's definitely off sometimes and it is way off if my bloodsugar is changing quickly and it certainly doesn't slow down the number of times I test with a finger stick. But I'm amazed to see how often I'm headed through the kitchen and maybe would have grabbed a mint or something thinking "I feel a little low" and now I look and see I'm not really low and I have to consider whether it's worth bolusing for. It's already changing my habits.
