I am 26 years old and I have had Type 1 diabetes since 1999.

I have recently finished my degree in Music Technology and Sound Recording. I am now spending a lot of time working and playing with my band Driftrun (please check out www.myspace.com/driftrunband), which I play the drums for and also have alot to do with the production/recording of our songs, as well as playing the piano/keyboards/synths on a lot of the recordings.
I am also working on several compositions for media at the moment, which I hope will be used here in the UK in the future.

Until recently i have had excellent control over my diabetes, however, my body seems to have outgrown my usual routine so I am again in a learning curve trying to get my blood sugars back under control. ( I am getting there).
I moved onto Mulitple injections recently and my control is improving. I take 2 injections of long lasting insulin (Humalin) when I wake up and before bed and inject quick acting insulin (Humalog) before eating carbs. So far so good!!!

I thought it was about time I joined a community for diabetics. I never seem to come across diabetics or people who understand my condition in my world? (apart from doctors and nurses) and I really need to talk to people who understand diabetes. I hope to learn a lot and meet some great people by joining this community!!

Please feel free to drop me a msg anytime

TONY xx

Hey Tony,
My levels haven't been too bad lately actually, thanks for asking! The past month I've really knuckled down. Being on this site has helped, made me want to actually try - Get me?
How have yours been? Have you considered the pump? My diabetic nurse is arranging a DAFNE course for me.
Hows your band going?
Do you attend any events for diabetics? I don't feel like there are any in the UK - let me know if you know of some!

Hope you are well.

That's great that there'll be new ones, I was listening to the tracks you've already got on myspace and they all sound fantastic. Do you play many gigs?? I'm good thanks, finding this site really helpful coz recently I've felt lost for someone to talk to about diabetes, and although my friends are great, I sometimes get the impression that if I need to rant or rave about it, they don't really want to know lol! (Can't say I blame them :P) My levels could be a lot better, but I've wised up a bit and I'm getting kinda obsessive now about trying to get them sorted out. How about you? It must be hard at times to work it around your gigs and band commitments? Hope things are good anyhow! :)

Thanks so much for sending the link about the tablets! That's great that I can order them now. :)

I've been dancing since I was a kid, but gradually moved into contemporary dance at uni and away from ballet. Lately I've been working a lot with video and dance, making short films. Have you found that all the bright lights/heat on stage bring on hypoglycemia? All that heat generated from the crowd plus the lights always seems to have an affect on me (well, we do know that hot weather causes insulin to speed up its work, so it makes sense), so I usually need to boost my blood sugar a little before a performance. Have you ever had a problem on stage? Luckily, I haven't so far!

Hey Tony,

I've been diabetic since I was twelve years old, so that's 13 years! I feel lucky though that I was old enough to understand what was happening at that age, instead of being diagnosed as a really young kid. Things are going pretty well, but lately I've changed my routine a little, so I'm going through a period of readjustment. This might sound like a stupid question, but in the UK do you have glucose tablets to treat low blood sugar? I used them all the time in the states, but I can't find them anywhere in France, so I'm kind of hoping that I can order some from the UK (but haven't seen any so far in my online searches). augh! I've got to log into myspace so I can check out your band. Take care x :)

i love this site! everyone is so friendly. it was a shock to me and my family beacuse i was fine. eating normal and just living life, then all of a sudden i was really sick and lost about 20 pounds in 2 weeks and i just did not feel normal and my 2nd cuzin just past away from type 1 beacuse she had a severe eating disorder so everyone was talking about it in my family. then i went to the doc and he took my blood sugar and it was in the 400 later going into 600's, then i was rushed to the hospital. it all happend to fast. i just got my omnipod a couple of days ago and i love it!
