Traveling

So this weekend my fiancé and I went to a wedding in Iowa. He was in the wedding party and I had to follow around the men in the wedding. Being on the men's side meant nobody knew what was going on, the groom had not organized anything, and beer drinking was certainly prioritized over scheduled meals. I didn't know anyone in the wedding and felt weird asking for special accommodations to find food just for me. I did however bring a cooler with snacks to hold me over in case there were no opportu… Continue

My Story

I am from New Jersey, and moved to Springfield, Missouri in 2005 to start a doctorate program in clinical psychology. I'm in my third year now, and almost done with the academic part of the program!!! The program got extremely hard during the summer of my second year. I lost about 20 lbs without moving a muscle, was constantly thirsty, and went to the bathroom every ten minutes. I was also extremely tired. I typically get up before 8:00, but during this time I wanted to sleep until 2:00pm. My t… Continue

Hey Kim,
Thanks for accepting my friend request.
I hope to learn a lot from you and the rest of the guys in this community.
Like Adam Davis, my control has gone a little over the past year or so (due to studying, amongst other stuff), so I hope by joining this community, it will help me get back on track.
I look forward to joining in on the discussions.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Actually our timing might be around the same :) I got married last year, but we are hoping for children in a couple years! It would be fun to have someone to keep in touch with during pregnancy! Good luck with grad school! I imagine that it's a lot to juggle at the same time! Plus, planning for your wedding! Hope that you aren't too stressed!

Hi Kim! I'm glad that you found this community! I was diagnosed around the same age (21)... and I'm currently working on a phd in political science! Glad that you are here and joining in our discussions!

been in Jersey all my life! First of all I am an awesome Italian cook too, but it seems like the closer I get to NYC the harder it is to avoid overeating starches. I was in the City 3 weeks ago at this place in Little Italy.... oh well you get the idea =)

hmmm I don't know if it's all willpower - I don't eat a lot of sweet food or desserts and so even fresh fruit tastes like rock candy to me now after all these years. It's almost nauseating to eat something really sweet so I just don't all that much. (maybe an Irish coffee once in a while but the booze cancells out the sweet!) I guess you can get "un-used" to something.

I've been working in Virginia 3-4 days a week now for a few months, so lately I miss Jersey too, well except maybe for the traffic!

Take care Kim and it's nice talking to you!

haha... yeah, I'm a newbie too. I really dig it though, it's kinda getting me back into wanting to take care of my diabetes better again... I've gotten kind of slack the past couple of years... lol. so I guess thats good.
