This is ME..!

I am a Clinical Laboratory Scientist working at a semi-government hospital here in Texas. I have been a diabetic for 20 years now. I was diagnose when I was 9 years old and it was very difficult for me as a growing kid but I came to adjust and managed my diabetes in a good way, i should say. although i dont really stick to my diet as much as i should. I also try to exercise whenever I can.

Just recently, my new endocrinologist suggested a pump to manage my diabetes and avoid the lows. And this what brought me to this community, tuDiabetes.com, I came across the site when somebody mentioned this community, and Im so glad I joined because I have learned a lot from the day I signed up.

I always change mine in the night. I don't seem to have the problems others do with my blood sugars running high or low after changes. Mine pretty much stays normal all the time after changes. I also didn't have the sharp learning time when I first started pumping. It only took me like 2 days to get my basals set right as well as my carb count and everything. My problem was my doctor has no one on the pump and has no idea on how to run the pump or what settings should be, so I was going blind into this with just this group and the book Pumping Insulin. I have tried all the endos in my area and I just don't mesh well with them and my GP has gotten my A1C down to 6 before the pump so I just stay with him. One month after I had the pump my A1C was at 5.4, so I must be doing something right with this. I don't think I will ever go back to shots. Have a happy 4th.

Just thought I would let you know sugars have been between 100 and 120 with the silhouette in my leg. I had one major high since I put it in yesterday but it was my own fault because I drank a jumbo sized margarita with lunch at Red Lobster (spiked to 220, but had sugar pack down to 120 2 hours after I drank it). I think I am going to definitely stick with the sils in my legs. Probably will do the quick sets in my stomach only but who knows I might try to do them in my stomach at some point.

Hey Marvin, I really appreciate your support. Yeah, the newness of it all has definitely thrown me for a loop, but you're absolutely right, it's important to focus on the positive. Thanks again!

She is doing pretty good. She has been having some lows herself lately. Has to do with hormones though. You might want to check your basal rates if you are going low when missing meals. You should be able to miss meals without going low. You should join the pumpers group. There was someone having some trouble with lows and some good info. You might also want to check out the book Pumping Insulin by John Walsh. I know you can get it at Amazon and might be able to get it at your local book store too.
