I got my first tattoo in Dec, 2005. No infection problems, but it was on my rt upper arm. I was told by over 10 people to use A&D ointment till it had healed. It has something to do with the base that is used. Oil based things like vasailene and neosporan damage the tat and can lead to problems. I'm ready to have another done on my left shoulder. I can't have any done on my legs because I have had both knees replaced and can not risk any chance of infection in those areas. bummer!

I recently got my first tatoo 1 month ago. It got infected and the skin basically divitted out in places. It was on my lower leg, half of it was fine and the other half closer to the shin was what got infected. Has anyone been allergic to the blue dye or neosporin? My doctor told me to use neosporin and it made it worse. I went through a whole month of antibiotics. had to eventually use silvadene topical creme and keep covered for the past three weeks. Its now healed and still has a little redness to the areas that were bad it will scar and lost some of its lines. Can anyone describe what happened or where should I get the next one on my body to insure proper healing?
