Dear family and friends,

What a year this has been! Can you believe Rebekah is starting High School? She is growing up so fast and becoming more and more independent. She keeps telling us how she will be driving in ONLY one more year!! Where did the time go? Just yesterday she was our baby girl and now she is a beautiful young lady. We have been truly blessed.

Bekah was able to attend two three-week sessions of Camp Sweeney this summer. Camp Sweeney is near Gainesville, Texas and is for kids with type 1 diabetes. She loved the break from Mom and Dad. She said that the best thing about going to a diabetic camp is that she feels “normal”. We dream of the day when our child feels “normal” all the time and not just at camp.

It is great to see progress made in allowing diabetics to feel “normal.” One example is the new OmniPod pump Bekah uses. No more tubes to get caught on things or to hide. No more having to find a place to wear and conceal a medical device. No more having to remember to disconnect her pump before jumping in the pool. Bekah loves her “Pod” and her wireless Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM). She does, however, have to keep up with the PDM, which is proving to be a challenge at times. We are hoping that this device will make the new world of High School a more “normal” transition for her. She is excited about being an athletic trainer (like her big brother) and being in the choir where she will go to competitions. During all of this, she will struggle with the constant up and down of her blood sugar. This is a life necessity until a cure is found.

This is the forth year our family will join the JDRF for its Walk to Cure Diabetes to do our part for Rebekah. We hope you will join us. We have increased our goal this year to $3,000, all of which goes towards research to bring us closer to finding a cure! Please help us reach our goal. Here is how you can contribute:

· Walk with “Bekah’s Backers” at the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on October 25th at Trinity Park

· Donate to JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes for Bekah’s Backer’s online at
walk.jdrf.org. Put in Rebekah’s name and donate to her account.

· Contact others in your circle of family and friends to donate as well

· Mail a check payable to JDRF to our home:

· See if your employer will match your donation! If you have questions,
please call us.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes and its complications through research. I truly believe that, together, we can find a cure so that Rebekah does not have to have diabetes FOREVER.

Truly,

EC, Shelly, Ryan and Rebekah

Shelly,
Thanks for getting back to me! Initially the Omnipod was my first choice. I read frequently that people were having pod malfunctions (up to 20%) and problems with adhesive. Needless to say it made me aprehensive.
I appreciate your input, your daughter is beautiful!
Thanks...CourtneyV

Glad you are taking it easy. You deserve some down time to turn off your brain for a little while and coast. Get some much needed rest. We are here when you are ready to jump back in. :)
