Hi

Sorry...I am not shy, I just have no clue how to post a photo. This is my dear departed greyhound from an old file. I was diagnosed with type 1, 3 years ago at 50. People wondered how I got "adult onset diabetes" while living such a healthy lifestyle. Hmmm......shows you how uninformed the lucky, general public is. I jumped in and read everything I could get my hands on and started out committed to besting this with tight control. After some scary lows and raging hormonal highs, I have lost my e… Continue

Hi Elanie,

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my little blog. I'm still learning so much about the disease, T1, T2, 1.5/Lada, etc. I had GD when I was pregnant with my twins, and despite losing all my baby weight, the T2 just kind of set up camp. I also have a whole host of other autoimmune diseases, so sometimes I wonder if T2 can be autoimmune, or if a lot of T2 people are actually T1s misdiagnosed. At any rate, I'm finally responding to a course of treatment, so I'm grateful for that!

I don't use Da Vinci syrup for whipped cream for the reason you mentioned. They add too much liquid. I use liquid Splenda for sweetener- just takes a couple of drops- and pure (natural) extracts for flavor. I just got a bunch of extracts from Cook Flavoring Company and am looking forward to using them to make ice cream, truffles etc.

Hey Elaine! Thank you for the welcome. I am glad i stumbled upon this page. I have been diabetic since October of 06' and am not doing well. I have no friends or family that know how to manage diabetes. And I know how, but am failing to do so. So I hope being around other diabetics inspires me to better help myself!

hi! I must admit that I do consider myself quite a lucky girl! I love Italy and definitely my husband =)

one of the advantages to having had diabetes since I was young is going through so many major life and developmental changes and always staying in relatively good control...now I feel like I can take on anything! let me know if there is anything that I can help you with =)

Elaine, I think we might be long lost sisters or something! I live on New Garden Road at the Brassfield park apartments. I will have my graduate degree from UNCG next May and my boyfriend and I are planning to move to Florida! He is from there and his parents live in Denalian (sp?) which I *think* is near Orlando. I like it here in Greensboro alright but I have been here since 2003 and am ready for a change and to get out of NC! I was researching this place that I am going to get tested at (Eagle Family Medicine which is right behind the Home Depot on Brassfield) and they said that they refer diabetics to the specialist at Lake Jennette so we may have a doctor in common soon! Both of my parents have type 2 but I do have a cousin who was in a coma for several months who is type one and also an aunt and an uncle who are type 1- my aunt lost her legs and my uncle lost his toe to the disease. That is what truly scares me about it all, but I am ready to get tested and start treating it the right way (if I have it).
Also- cute dog I was sorry to read that he has passed. I love dogs soooo much and that is my sheltie Sheldon in the pic with me. As soon as we get to Florida (hopefully!!!) I am gonna get another one!
Thanks for the support and nice comment! It's good to hear from a former Greensborian.. is that what we're called?!
