Peripheral Neuropathy

On Thursday July 31st, I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy after having an MRI done to rule out a compressed nerve. I am now on Neurotin to help with the nerve pain and damage. Some days are better than others. If I have to do a lot of walking I have learned that its worse at night. I've been taking Lortab for the pain with the Neurotin plus all my other medications at night and then just Motrin 800mg or 400mg of naproxen to help during the day which does help to a point but have talked t… Continue

Its been a rough week!

Monday was our first night that my husband had to go to work the next morning. Well he didn't make it because he over sleep. Thats fine except for the fact that I didn't know he'd also be missing Thursday as well. Wednesday night he ended up driving me up to the hospital where I spent from 8:30pm to 7am in the ER where I was then transferred to ICU because I was having severe breathing problems where I couldn't catch my breathe and having palpations. I was on an oxygen mask to try to get my hear… Continue

Out of the hospital

I was released from the hospital on June 6th 2008 not because of diabetic complications but because I had a nervous breakdown basically and my bipolar disorder was out of control. I self-admitted myself on June 3rd. I had to be transported to another hospital because of the fact that the one I was at had no open beds which seemed to be with a lot of the hospitals in Salt Lake City. I ended up an hour's drive away in Ogden UT. Where I first lived when I arrived in Utah. Some really bad memories t… Continue

How I felt when I was first diagnosed.

I was diagnosed on October 2nd, 2000. Its been a long struggle one that I sometimes want to give up on but I haven't yet. When I was first diagnosed it not only scared me but it also made me wonder how people were going to treat me. I was sixteen years old and in my junior year of high school. It was in October of 2000, the week of homecoming and I had been having some symptoms for over a week. My mom decided that I needed to get into the doctor's office and quick. I went to my primary c… Continue

Sharps Containers in Public Places, Especially at Colleges and Universities

I have been wondering this every since I started college again. I've noticed that public places, not like grocery stores or little stores with no public restrooms, but more like universities do not offer sharps containers for their diabetic students. I attend the University of Phoenix-Salt Lake City division in Taylorsville UT. There is two campuses that I have been for the UOP's campuses, one is the main campus located in Murray UT but is called Salt Lake City because its easier to find and the… Continue

Hi Cherise! I saw your comment about getting medical supplies (for as cheap as possible) and thought that you might be interested is this meter-- it's cheap but more accurate than the others:

Check into all the pump companies about financial hardship program. I know Animas and Medtronic have a financial assistance program. You will get a refurbished pump, but it will have the same warranty as a brand new one.
