Hey Nancy, good to see you on TuDiabetes. Just about all of us type I diabetics were diagnosed as kids, so we can sympatize. I suppose I was somewhat fortunate that I was a teen at the time and it wasn't quite as traumatic as it would be a few years earlier. (I'm a fourth generation diabetic.) No matter what age, it's can be quite a challenge at times. However, one thing to keep in mind is now that you have found out, you can do something about it and the tools are out there today to do so effectively without a huge disruption. With the proper management, kids can play sports, graduate with honors, and excel like anyone else. It may require a lot of patience and determination with an 8 year old, but it will pay off. Good luck to you and Marvin!

Hi Nancy, good to see you found us here. Support from others that truly understand is the life line to sanity in living everyday with Diabetes.

My daughter Maddison was diagnosed 12-4-2006 just 9 months after I was Diagnosed with Type 1. My dad also had type 1 Diabetes. Seems to be a family affair for us :( The last year managing diabetes in a child has been overwhelming, a roller coaster ride. There is so much to learn. I just now feel *comfortable* and like things are getting back to *normal* in our lives.

I hope that you find the answers you need here. Always trust yourself. You know your son best. Hope to see you around!

Welcome to the family, Nancy. I assume the child on the photo would be the person with diabetes in your life, correct?
