Hey buddy sorry it took me so long to write back, my summer job is taking up a good chunk of my time if you know what i mean. I too have heard pink-haired med students are frowned upon in the dirty south, strange! Thanks for sharing your feelings on the pod, its sounds real cool. I've been a pumper for about 7 years now, wow I've never thought about that till now haha. I haven't really had to many kink problems growing up, but i may want to try it some day! Def. will some day!

Wow,

It's been so long since I last saw you! How are you? Yes, I'm working in Tuscaloosa at the Tuscaloosa News. We should catch up sometime. I don't know any diabetics my age here in town. I hope life is grand and look forward to talking to you soon!

Oh and how is the omnipod working for you, I'm curious about the pod. I use a pump, how do they differ from each other?

Med-abetic is tremendous and it's pretty impressive that you thought of it off the cuff. I think you should petition to rename the medical professionals group to med-abetics - I mean come on, could we have picked a drier group name? :P

So, it feels good to be done with tests for the next 10 years. I passed my boards (ABIM endocrine) in October, so that's it, until recertification. I just finished fellowship in June of last year, so I've been in practice since the end of last July. It's been great so far. I joined 2 endocrinologists in a hospital owned practice in southern NH. It's back home for me, so after being away for a long time it's nice to feel at home again.

Exams are always tough for sugars. Just do what you need to do when you have to do it. You never want to look back at an exam or situation and say "I wish I had spoken up and asked to test" or whatever. I found that sometimes (like surgery rotations) it can be tough to speak up, but always make sure you do.

I never considered any specialty other than endo. I never pictured myself as anything other than an endocrinologist. I debated with going into research full time, but I wanted to see patients and didn't want to give that up to be in a lab - although I'm very happy I did research during training. You just try to pick the specialty that makes you happy and keeps you interested. That may not be endo for you and it doesn't have to be.

Anyway, it's great that you're on your way! Anytime you want to chat, feel free to get in touch. Mick

Hi Steph, How far along are you in school? I am finally out in the "real world" after 4 years of med school and 5 years of residency/fellowship. I'm happy to share any experiences I had along the way (related or unrelated to diabetes) during training. Talk to you soon, Mick

I took a little time off between college and med school, so I'm just starting this August. I'm pretty nervous....how has it been so far for you? As far as the coach bag goes, it's been the goal for awhile now. Each time I miss it, I re-focus and think to myself how absolutely sweet this bag will be when I get it. Kinda lame, but it helps a little.
