Blood Work

I had a new A1C, an insulin antibody, and an islet cell autoimmune and antibody test done today. I will have the results of the A1C Monday and the others sometime next week. My Endo is puzzled because my GAD antibody was negative. I will keep you posted.

Diagnosed 08/14/07 at age 33

Hello everyone.

My sister Mollie directed me to this site, she has been a Type I for 33 years and coincidentally I was diagnosed at age 33. I am a Hospital Social Worker and was at work on Tuesday and was not feeling well. Knowing the signs of high blood sugar from growing up around diabetes I asked a nurse to do a finger prick, the reading came back HIGH. So she tried another meter and it came back HI. I went down to the ER and they did a serum glucose level and it came back 686. The… Continue

Hi, Mark! I'm new to this site, but I was poking around and I saw you are a Medical Social Worker -- just curious, what exactly do you do?

Definitely - she's already mentioned this to me and we're planning on getting you in to check out our robots here at NASA. Whether or not you guys make it down to Clear Lake, I would love to meet up and chat. I still feel like a moron when it comes to this diabetes thing.

wow--interesting story. I know your diagnosis is pretty recent. You'll get your A1C down. After 18 years of type 1, it's still never easy, but it does get better. BTW, love your smile! It's contagious!

Mark,

That is really great! I'm glad you're liking SugarStats. Keep an eye out, we're working on a lot of new stuff to make it even better :-) But of course feel free to send in your thoughts, comments or feedback as you use it.

Hi Mark. I see that you've been diagnosed very recently - how are you feeling so far? I've been type 1 for almost 21 years now. If I can help you out in any way, please feel free to ask! There's a great community here - the support is very nice. :)

- Kerri.

Hi Mark!
Nice to meet you. I can't recommend any places to get supplies because I only buy my supplies from Minimed. People tried to sell them cheaply on Ebay for a while, but it's illegal so that ended real quick!

As far as medical ID bracelets go, check out this site for cool men's designs. I figure since you will have diabetes for a long time, you might as well get a good med alert bracelet!

My mom called when she got the news from your mom. I noticed that you were diagnosed on the anniversary of my release from the hospital after my diagnosis in 1979. I'm sure it's a bumpy road at times right now, but you've got lots of support...sometimes even when you may not want it. ;) Take care...catch ya later.

Hey Mark - hope everything is going well for you now that you're out of the hospital. I think you'll find this site very handy for the next several months. I personally think it's pretty fabulous b/c it got me in touch with your sister and the rest of the Type1 ladies in Houston. If you haven't already, join a group that covers your area. You might find the same.
