A picture is worth 1,000 words!

I am currently making a personal video about Olivia's journey with type 1 diabetes. I had my oldest daughter take this picture of Olivia actually getting an insulin injection. She did a great job capturing the moment, but looking at this picture is hard. More or less heartbreaking. Does… Continue

Peanut Butter Tootsie Rolls???

Happy 4th of July everyone! Today was a perfect 4th of July day - especially since the last two weeks have been rainy around here. Even yesterday, it rained like cats and dogs. They had a blast at the parade and it was the first time in seven years that my Husband was able to go along. U… Continue

Wii Sport!

My family broke down and purchased a Wii Sport console and sport games this past weekend! At first I'm thinking "another one of my husband's toys!", but after I played a game of boxing - I changed my mind really quick. It is awesome. I boxed against my husband and I laughed so hard it hurt! We boxed three rounds and when it was over, he was victorious, but we were both on the floor - breathing heavy, and laughing so hard. If you don't have one of these - GO BUY ONE! It was a workout and I still… Continue

Olivia's Quilt

I finished Olivia's quilt square for the "Quilt for Life" - part of CWD (children with diabetes). Her quilt shows a little bit of everything - importantly, all of her favorite things!! There are over 600 quilts that will be displayed in Washington DC on August 4th and 5th. My family will… Continue

Too much!

Both my daughters are taking swimming lessons this summer and I admit that I am amazed how exercise plays such an important part in diabetes management. I make sure I check Olivia before she swims and try to have her be above 200 before lessons start. She is on low doses right now (probably because of her age and because she is still Honeymooning). She gets from 2 to 3 units of Novolog at Breakfast with 1 and 1/2 units of Levemir. We think that she is currently experiencing the Dawn Phenomeon (m… Continue

Yeah, seeing them all laid out still just kills me. We get "used" to things then, we have to empty that container, and for me it is like day one again. They are so brave. I just hope we can get this cured and they can be kids without worries! Hope you are having a good day.

Hi Ronda,

Thanks for the kind words about our video. I took a look at all the great pictures of Olivia and her big sister and they look like happy siblings. Taylor has a little sister, Ella, age 4. They are best friends and arch enemies (depending on the day). Tonight, when I get home, I'm gong to see if Taylor would like to send a message to Olivia. It would be neat to see if they want to be pen (email) pals.
