Day 6 on the Guardian

The Guardian, so far, has worked amazingly for me. I don't think it lags behind the blood sugar because if I eat a piece of white bread I see the number on my monitor go up within five minutes. I'm paying out of pocket for everything, so I'm trying to stretch out the sensor. The rule of thumb that the minimed rep gave me was that if the ISIG was below 6 when I get the Sensor End message, don't re-use it. So far the ISIGs have stayed well above 6. My blood sugar in the past six days hasn't been l… Continue

Things that Improve My blood sugar Control

I don't limit my carbs (I eat over 300 per day and often many more). I've got hypoglycemia unawareness, and have for over a year. My c-peptide is negative. I'm not pumping. I don't have a CGMS. I've averaged different numbers of blood sugar tests per day in different months, from about 5 to 11, but mostly around 7. I'm active, but not really an athlete. I don't have a fixed schedule (which my endo is always saying I should). So sometimes I wonder howcome I've had A1cs below 6.5 for over a yea…

I had been thinking about/ planning to try a restricted carb diet for the month of February, as an experiment. Then I went to the doctors and found that I've grown about three inches taller during the past year. My weight had been study but I've gained five pounds in the last year. I had not realized that I was still a growing person.

I have a number of major objections to low and restricted carb diets. The biggest one is that they promote weight loss. Especially since I…

Overnight Hypo

On Wednesday after my youth group, I took the bus to the end of the line, two miles from home. There's a bus that I can take from there to get home, or I can walk. I decided to eat an apple and walk. So I did.

When I got home, I said to myself that I'd go to bed if my blood sugar was between 100 and 160, but that if it was lower I needed to stay up to watch for hypos, and if it was higher I needed to watch and see if it would drop/ make sure the correction wasn't too much.

It wa…

ME

Hey, all. I run a lot of other blogs and don't plan to spend a whole lot of time on this site, but since you're looking at me, here's a bit about me and my labeled life.

Diagnosis Story: I was diagnosed with diabetes on September 1, 2006 at the Illinois University Medical Center. I was 17 years old. My mother took me. She wanted us to walk to the train station because she gets motion sickness, but at that point I waddled with a distended stomach in front of me, and wit…

I'm just very depressed. I can't think about the gender issues at all. I've got my days and nights reversed; all I'm doing is sleeping and playing Neopets on my computer. It's the only reason to get out of bed. If I stop playing I'll get behind so I'm just on the computer; haven't talked to my friends or kids in 2 months

Hey Jonah, Hmmmm what stats, 4 decades, well anyway thanks for the hey. Speaking of Chicago, I just went to the taste of Chicago last weekend, but I was on mega antibiotics and bgs were soaring so I ate softly. ;), but glad I was on my pump. Thanks for saying hi.

Hmm, I hadn't tried that. It sounds like an obvious solution though. When I run out of IV3000 I'll have to try that instead of paying $62 for the IV3000. Thanks for the suggestion!

I am 26 years old. To answer your question, I would definitely be interested in meeting other type 1 diabetics my age.
