Sleep Away Camp - Not Diabetes Camp

My daughter is a member of her school's safety patrol. She's one of the student crossing guards. The big reward for doing this job is that they get to go to summer camp, all expenses paid, for four days. Well that's all fine and good, but they've either got a nurse or an EMT there at all times. ANd while that may be fine if you scrape your knee or even break an arm, I'm not real comfortable with it for my daughter's diabetes care. We've been to family diabetes camp, and I'd send her there by her… Continue

Middle School Worries

I went and visited the middle school where my daughter will be attending next year, and it's got me a little spun up. It's not really diabetes related, although the nurse did bug me, but I'm easily bugged when it comes to my daughter's diabetes care. I just don't appreciate third party comments into her diabetes care. What you think you are going to give me advice based on one blood sugar reading that you get at lunch time every day? No, I am not going to dictate early lunch based on your percep… Continue

San Diego Wildfires

The wildfires are now burning in only the very north and south parts of the county. The Santa Ana winds have stopped and we're getting our more normal onshore wind flows, which are moist in the mornings.

My office is in Rancho Bernardo and very near to where quite a number of homes burned. The winds in this area must have been fierce as I saw many huge toppled trees and the ground littered with branches and leaves as I returned to work yesterday. In some areas they had gusts of up to 1…

Ozomatli

We went and saw Ozomatli last night at a private concert put on by a local radio station. It was free, you just had to go and pick up tickets, first come first served and it was unadvertised. It was awesome. They only played for an hour, but it was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Well I'm partial to Buddy Guy, but I loved these guys! Very high energy, I was on my feet the whole time! Good time.

Why I'm Here....

My daughter is type 1 and was diagnosed on April 6, 2004. "We're" pumpers and doing fairly well. My daughter plays softball, soccer, the piano (against her will), and does well academically. So far things are going ok, her numbers are erratic, she fluctuates quite a bit, so we test a lot, but we don't take it personally. I'm jealous of the folks whose numbers are steady, but we're not going to beat ourselves up about it, or stop eating mashed potatoes.

Thanks Manny for starting the sit…

Hey Kathy, my daughter came up with a good bruise on her elbow yesterday and said she didn't hit it on anything, ever run across random bruises? Any ideas?

Thanks for inviting me to be your friend Kathy. You and your daughter are pumping and I am too. I hope we allhave good control. Really good control greatly increases our chances of having a long, healthy life without serious complications. Good luck to both of you!

Chargers-Raiders... that will be an intense game. You really are going to have to walk fast to make it to the show. That can be a little extra motivation for you all :)

Sadly, I have work obligations and won't be able to make it to the walk this year. UGH. I look forward to making my walk debut though, hopefully next year. And I really want to do the JDRF ride for a cure. That's really going to take some planning though.

Best of luck to you and your family at the Walk To Cure Diabetes!

Had to add you at the least because of your icon :-) Go Chargers!

I'm originally from San Diego (by Gaslamp) and love the dynamic nature of the city.
