Well, the pump start didn't happen - After 2 ER trips last week, I was finally admitted on Friday with a small bowel obstruction. So - the pump start is unfortunately on hold until the 20th. Bummer. Right now, though, I'm just looking forward to having something to drink :)

Tracy,
How's the pump start going?? If I were you I would call Sanofi-Aventis ( the makers of Apidra) and see what guidlines they give you regarding how often you should change your cartridge. As for site changes I change my site very 48-72 hours.

Hi Tracy, I read your post on the Animas group about having to change a pump site more frequently with Apidra. I have been on a 1250 for about 2 years now. I used Apidra (was given some samples) for about a year and noticed no difference in the frequency of site changes versus Novolog, Humalog, or even Velosulin (the old buffered R for pumps). I really believe that all the analogs act generally the same. I didn't think Apidra was any better or any worse than either of the other 2 analogs. I would go with the cheapest option of the three. Hope this helps. Mick :)

Yes, Tracy I am the third Flo in my family on my mother's side. My great great grandmother was Florence, my grandmother was a Florence and then me!!! Of course, my middle name is different from my namesakes. By the way, how far away is Albemarle from Fayetteville, NC??

Tracy,
i was so happy to see your pics, cuz it's so good to have you with us. you should see mine too! mine never got as bad as yours and Linda's. My bile duct was only completely blocked for about 4 days before i went into the ER.

Hi Tracy. I am so sorry we are "meeting" under these circumstances, but it is so good to meet others who have been through the same thing and are still alive to talk about it! Your pictures were so familiar that it almost made me cry. I was in the hospital for 2 long months. Our scars are different though. Mine goes across my stomach in an arch (chevron incision) which makes it look like a big frown (or smile if I were upside down). What caused you to have a total pancreatectomy? Mine was caused from years of being misdiagnosed. I was having horrible pains - I called it heartburn from HELL, but it wasn't like typical hb. I went to a gastroenterologist who did an EGD and found a little bit of esophagitis and gastritis but never once mentioned my gallbladder. He put on Nexium and sent me on my way. By the time of my last attack, I ended up in the hospital in multiorgan failure with the diagnosis of gallstone pancreatitis. I was immediately put in the ICU, and they told my husband that I probably wouldn't live. I had three stones in my common bile duct which had completely blocked flow to my pancreas which turned necrotic and had a huge pseudocyst covering it. They couldn't do my surgery until I was stable enough, which was about a month after I first went in. They were able to save around 10% of my pancreas - they were thinking that maybe I would have some endocrine function with even a little bit, but that wasn't the case - instant diabetic. I was on insulin injections until August and then decided to go on the pump, so I have been pumping for four years now. I also just started Symlin yesterday, hoping to get my sugars even more under control. I love my new Animas 2020! I have the pink one. I wish you lots of success! I would love to keep in touch. Oh! I almost forgot - we're both in NC - where exactly is Albermarle? I have heard of it but can't think of what it is close to. I am in Raleigh. Bye for now! Linda
