We do the switch this weekend. the diabetic nurse said that before my husband Dennis can get a pump, he must have his glucose levels under control. I am happy about this but a bit nervous about figuring out the amounts. Den gets mad when he is high so I hope it doesnt' take long to figure out.
David's levels had leveled out, but I am beginning to wonder about the honeymoon getting less as his morning numbers aren't as low as they used to be, but I haven't had to feed him in the middle…

Well we had the assessment for a pump for my husband today. We met a nurse at the diabetes clinic in Fredericton and found out that Dennis still has to get an appointment with the endocrinologist in order to get a pump. Hopefully due to the hypoglycemic episode he had while there, he will get an appointment soon.
The nurse said she thinks Dennis is having lows in the night and his liver is kicking out sugar and then he is rebounding in the morning so we will start checking at night for…
ContinueWe finally got the call for an assessment appointment for my husband to get a pump. He goes the 19th to be assessed. There is a two week practice run and then he is on a waiting list to actually get to start because there are so few people around here that are trained to help.
Now the decision is to be made on what type of pump to get. I have been asking questions on the CWD website and reading so much info. It is really down to Cosmo or Minimed. Whichever one we get we…

The best things about the Cozmo for us are the weekly schedule feature and the reminders. It has missed meal bolus reminders, low cartridge reminders, set change reminders, you name the reminder and it has it. And if you want you can customize up to eight of your own reminders! Get this, we use her pump to help her remember to take antibiotics and other daily meds!
The weekly schedule also totally rocks because you can schedule in different basal temp rates for different activities ahead of time. Then at the time of the scheduled activity the new basal rate automatically kicks in, you don't have to remember to change it!
It also has hypo manager, which suggests the amount of carbs you should eat when your blood sugar is in danger of going low or is already low. I really love this pump! The one major drawback is that the software that comes with it is not at all good compared to the other pumps. So if you want to download your pump data and get charts and graphs and stuff you can't do it. You can download the data and get reports, just not the graphs. But, one positive about the software is that it has a huge food database and the ability to customize the database. So you can keep track of carb content for almost any food you would ever want right there on your pump!
Anyway, we absolutely love it! If you end up with any specific questions about the Cozmo or pumping, please feel free to ask!!! I remember I had a ton of questions before we decided on a pump. :)
I'm so sorry you're sad right now. But, I've been right there with you before. Just so you know, I did a lot of crying in the beginning and had a lot of sad days. But, now, Riley has had D for 20 months and those sad days aren't there anymore. To see how it is for me now, you can go to this post (http://threeyearsfree.blogspot.com/2007/06/no-more-gray.html)
And, I understand about those tiny doses. Life became much better when Riley got on the pump. He went on it 5 months after he was diagnosed and it's really been a Godsend.
Anyway, I'm thinking about you and sending you a (((big hug))).
