Glad to be home....

I'm glad to be home, but had a wonderful experience in China. It is such a blessing to bring smiles to the children's faces. I'm happy to say my blood sugars were great, and I loved traveling with Louise (my Dexcom). This was my first big trip with her, and it was so nice to be able to check it frequently. I checked her when I was on top of the Great Wall, and after viewing the steep downward trend, I decided to eat a snack and turn off my basal (I had already put it down to 1/2). I should've ke… Continue

China here I come....

So this Thursday I am heading back for my 4th trip to China, my second to work in an orphanage. However, this time I am heading off with two great tips I learned here since joining tudiabetes. I have been on a pump for 12 years now, but from this site I learned I can request a loaner pump from Animas, which I did. I feel much more at ease knowing I have a backup with me:) The other thing I learned about is the frio wallet to keep my insulin cool. In the past… Continue

Love spring!

Spring has to be my favorite season of the year around here! The late snow that we received last weekend made me fear that it may never get here. But alas, today was a gorgeous day, so I got to spend some time in the beautiful tulip fields in Skagit Valley. My two favorite photography subjects, my girls and the flowers. I can never take in enough of either of them! The pictures don't do either justice, but nonetheless, they take me back to the fields every time I look at them.

Good intent to "raise my voice"

So I had every intention of posting on my blog yesterday regarding the Raise Your Voice campaign. However, when I sat down to write, I found myself zoning out on the computer screen, debating with myself whether or not I needed to go test my bloodsugar. After some time passed, I finally decided I needed to go test, which ended up being the right thing to go do. After that, I never had the energy or clarity of thought to post. I couldn't decide what to say. A bit ironic, huh? I guess that speaks… Continue

sponsor-a-crib

I know this isn't diabetes related, but it's one of my passions. This summer I am returning to Chaoyang, China to work in an orphanage. If you would like to learn more about how you can sponsor a much needed new crib for an orphan, then follow this link to my blog. Thanks!

Hi Toni

Thanks for the welcome. There actually is no retreat camp. I was researching them and an old forum post came up leading me to this site. I wish there was such a thing, but so far, no retreat camps for Type 1s...

Hi, Thanks for the welcome. Glad to hear from someone who is close by. I am not looking forward to going back to work but I am looking forward to getting back into a routine. I am a school psychologist and I work at an elementary school and high school south of Seattle.
Have a good first day of school! :)

Thanks, Toni. If I'm able to get in contact with him, I'll pass along your message. It's very exciting to see someone with diabetes succeed in such a huge way.

Hi Toni,

Do you happen to know Kevin Hansen? We're trying to get in touch with him regarding a media opportunity, but haven't heard back fom his agent.

Thanks,

Melissa

High school English, all grades. I'm the advisor for the school newspaper as well. Yes, summer is dwindling and I'm trying to hold onto the dregs, regardless of how quickly they are receding. Good luck with getting back and getting started. Hopefully the summer has left you recharged.

Thanks for the comment. I've definitely be letting people know about the TuDiabetes community. I think it is an awesome example of technology, community and social awareness. In fact, I just realized I need to add a badge to my blog in addition to the article.

Thanks for commenting my blog. I've lost 11 lbs since starting Byetta, and my last A1c was 5.7, so I feel hopeful that things are definitely going in the right direction!
