I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on Friday 6th July '07. I'm all settled in now, but it's still hard to cope with it at school. I have a lot of hypos, generally one or two at random points during the day, and also go high usually at least once a day. Currently I use lantus and novorapid. I like the idea of a pump, but at the moment the NHS won't cover it.

...Yay. A1C, pump and diabetes camp!

Today was kinda crappy BG-wise... They always go a bit wonky right before clinic, I think it's nerves. (I hate hospitals!) I ended up low (50-60) for a whole hour, in which I kept eating and my sugar wouldn't come up. But I got my A1C, and that was 7.4. Everything else was pretty good. I found out also that I am going to get a pump in the summer break! YAY! It will be probably Medtronic, or it might be a Roche one. I like the Medtronic one better though, so that's probably what I'll get. I'm al… Continue

School and Hypos.

Some of these drops really, really scare me. Even without a correction bolus, I can go from high to low in a matter of minutes. I'll be perfectly fine, laughing with my friends, one minute, and the next I'll be slumped against the wall being given juice by my friend. When this happens, they tend to get worried and take me to… Continue

Sometimes I feel like giving up.

When I have to go to El's house so she can give me some of her NovoRapid 'cause I'm stupid enough to let mine run out half way through my lunch bolus. And not have any spare. Stupid, eh?

When I've been up all night after an original 2.9 at the D of E training session that just won't budge. That eventually shoots to 11 and falls back to 5 in an hour. And that was just the start.

ALL night. ALL NIGHT.

When I've dropped from 8 to 3 in half an hour wit…

What are they gonna do to me?

On October 3rd I have to go to the clinic for my 3 month appointment (yep - almost 3 months since my diagnosis, feels like I've been living with diabetes forever). I guess they'll do my A1C.. But I don't even know what my last one was when I was diagnosed, so I have no idea what that'll be...

Other than that, what would they generally check at a 3 month appointment?

Yay, good job. :)
Im excited for you.
What kind of pump are you getting?
With my experience with little kids (i volunteer at my local zoo) is that they usually ask first, or stare at you until they find out what it is.
My little cousin does pull on it sometimes, but i tell her that she cant.
One time, at the zoo, i was working in the petting zoo part of it, and a goat came up to me and bit the tubing in half!
I laughed at it, and changed the tubing. :)
