A1c test: UPDATE!

So, I had my second A1c tested on Friday (11 April 2008) since my diagnosis 17 December 2008 with the astronomical result of 16.9% for the first one. I was leery about and was worried about expecting too much of a change for my first 4 months. My doctor told me I should have jumped lower but assured me that thinking anything lower than 9% might bet setting myself up for failure. I almost dreaded giving my results to my parents who would tell me it was yet another thing I “needed to work on”. So… Continue

Good needing the bad and vice versa.

"You live with dignity. You don't die with it." A skeptic's way of looking at life optimistically and trying to persuade someone else of their backwards argument. I found irony in the saying. Especially when it came from an individual that was an extreme pessimist. But when it came to someone else’s life - they saw the richness in it and looked passed all the troubling situations. And saw it as their responsibility to not let them just roll over and give up. The irony wasn’t necessarily t… Continue

speechless

It's funny. I used to think of myself as an elloquent debater and an artisan of ligual acrobatics. Now, I struggle when people, in passing, ask me how I am. I was recently diagnosed as with diabetes mellitus or commonly known as type one (for all you diabetics out there). The months that have followed have been nothing less than emotionally exhausting. Not only on me but everyone that surrounds me. Keeping that stiff upper lip and poised exterior has been difficult to say the least. I've broken… Continue

Hi Jess! I just ran across your page. I used to live in Minneapolis! Orginally from North Dakota, but now on the west coast. I saw your post in April about your A1C...that is great!! Good for you! Take care!

Jess,
Hi again! I've been out of the loop a bit...super busy with work and house projects. Anyway, I'd like to invite you to a phone call on May 18... it's about a team of women athletes with Type 1 and 2 who are ready and willing to train to do a Half Ironman (also called a 70.3) in Minnesota in Sept. 2009. I'd love it if you'd come to the call and see if it's something you're interested in. If so, email me at my personal email (I think you have it!) and I'll tell you the call in number and the time for the call!!!!
Also, my mom and brother have a team for the MN Tour de Cure in the Twin Cities!!!!! They are called the Red Ruddy Riders!

Jess ....it was great to have 7 of our 26 member team ride 18 miles today! Perfect weather and some fun....especially when Laura kept losing her peddle on the trail. How will we finish 25 miles?...with many laughs! I think it's great that you have made a Tour de Cure team....and a strong one at that!
